The Balanced Man Program

  • Sigma

    Sigma Program
The Sigma Challenge is an Introduction for new members into Sigma Phi Epsilon. They spend the majority of their first semester in this Challenge learning about the SigEp Balanced Man ideals. This includes the cardinal principles of every Sigma Phi Epsilon: Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love. Sigmas (new members in the Challenge) also meet with their assigned mentors, Sigma classmates and challenge coordinators, as well as the individual members of the chapter themselves. The Sigma Challenge is designed to involve each new member and bridge the gap from recruit to SigEp.

  • Phi

    Phi Challenge Overview
The Phi Challenge seeks to develop balanced leaders that are active and productive within the Fraternity. Utilizing knowledge and skills gained from the Sigma Challenge, Phi focuses on group and individual leadership skills. Through hands on experience, members of the Phi Challenge are truly exposed to the values of Sound Mind & Sound Body, and seek to become better gentlemen, leaders, scholars, and athletes. Additionally, members of the Phi challenge learn the deepest meanings of our Fraternity's cardinal principles: Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love. At the conclusion of the Phi Challenge, members will have gained personal, social, and spiritual knowledge about the Fraternity, its members, and themselves.

  • Epsilon

    Epsilon Challenge Overview
The Epsilon Challenge is the most difficult stage of development in Sigma Phi Epsilon. Unlike the previous challenges, Epsilon encourages brothers to work individually to complete the tasks at hand. It is during this stage that most members gain leadership experience in various roles. To complete this challenge, brothers must complete a significant community service project, engage in sound mind and sound body activities, and actively prepare for life after college. By completing the Epsilon Challenge, members truly become more balanced men.

  • Brother Mentor

    Brother Mentor Challenge
The Brother-Mentor Challenge truely is the most unique challenge of all four. Obtaining entry into this challenge is one of the highest honors a undergrad in Sigma Phi Epsilion can achieve. Brother mentors are elder members of the Fraternity that have accomplished a lot in their time. Brother mentors do not take a large role in the execution of chapter activies but rather mentor those who are currently running the fraternity. This semester the brother mentor challenge also has two addtional goals. First, we wish to build strong relationships with members in the Sigma Challenge. In the past, older members have struggled to build relationships with younger members, we feel as brother mentors that mentoring younger members is extremely important and needs to be stressed. The second goal is staying involved. The job of a brother mentor cannot be performed without attendence at chapter functions. This semester we will strive to have a presence at recruitment events, social functions, all rituals and just to generally be around the house as much as possible. The brother mentor challenge is not intended for all members. It takes a special person to become a member of this elite challenge and once in, expectations are very high.

  • Sound Mind/Body

    Sound Mind
Building a Sound Mind involves much more than academic pursuits in college. Although every member of Sigma Phi Epsilon strives to earn top marks in the classroom, this is but one facet of mental achievement. In order to build Sound Mind, SigEps engage in opportunites for cultural awareness, arts appreciation, and lifelong learning. This type of personality is often referred to as a Renaissance man, one who is committed to learning as much as possible about many fields of study. Developing members as Renaissance men - balanced men - lies at the heart of every Sigma Phi Epsilon member's pursuits.

    Sound Body
Sound Body coordinators attempt to encourage healthy activities for members of Sigma Phi Epsilon. This is often accomplished through brotherhood events that are centered around athletics. Also, the Sound Body coordinators help to group members into different sound body categories including running faster, losing weight, or buildling muscle. On top of merely promoting various exercise activities, Sound Body coordinators are also responsible for providing speakers to disucss various Sound Body topics. In this past this has included speakers discussing nutrition, proper exercise, and healthy lifestyles.

  • Brotherhood

    Brotherhood

Brotherhood is an area where we as Sigma Phi Epsilon set ourselves apart from other fraternities. We have numerous events throughout the semester for members of our fraternity only. These activities provide an opportunity for a chapter of around 150 men to interact on a frequent basis. Common events are paintballing, a lock-in, dodgeball, and even an in-house intramural league called Sig Ep Sports League. The goals of these activities are to promote brotherhood among our members without outside distractions.
