Our Sponsor Family
In teaming up with Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County, we have chosen to sponsor a family in the process of getting their home. Pictured is Connita Sayles and her son Marshawn. Connita is currently pursuing a career in nursing. Marshawn is in second grade at Dr. Howard Elementary school and is the star of his basketball team. Over this and next semester, our chapter is doing events with Connita and Marshawn in an effort to help connect each brother with our cause. By eating meals with our sponsor family and mentoring Marshawn in both school and sports, we are trying to create a bond that will help us grow closer to this family and the Habitat program.
The Sayles’ are in the process of building their home right here in Urbana, IL over the next 12 months. Connita is working hard to complete her need volunteer hours to get her family their home at the local Habitat for Humanity restore. We will also be contributing a variety of work hours towards building their home in the following semester to carry out our efforts with Habitat for Humanity from start to finish. Members will be regular volunteers throughout the entire construction phase.
Our goal is to not only to give someone a home, but to change the way we view philanthropy on this campus. We want to shift our focus to the cause itself and have our members get closer to the people that we are helping. We are striving to make a difference in a few people’s lives with effort from each and every one of us. We hope that you will help us on our journey to better the lives of others.
